Yesterday the group left the Kibbutz, and traveled to the center of Israel to Tel Aviv. Upon arrival, we walked to the downtown area and visited Rabin square. Coincidentally, we ran into a member of parliament, Nitzan Horowitz, who was also running for mayor. He was nice enough to speak to the group, and told us about current issues in Tel Aviv, and how he planned on fixing them.
After Nitzan finished talking to us, we learned about Yitzha Rabin, and his assasination, and how he was the only prime minister to ever propose peace to Israelis. After his assasination in November 4, 1995, the Israeli population was forever different. No other prime minister has been radical enough to propose peace since then. We broke off into groups, and spoke to civillians about Rabin, and how it affected them. It was very interesting to see various different perspectives on the situation, since the Israeli people were polarized by this event.
Once we finished in Rabin Square, we had thirty minutes to walk around and eat lunch. The group enjoyed various different Tel Aviv restaurants, ranging from pizza to falafel. After Lunch, the group enjoyed a couple hours on the Mediterranean Sea, soaking up the Tel Aviv beach culture, and enjoying the nice day. After we left, we traveled over to the Independence Hall museum, where we learned about the birth of Israel, and the people and motives that built an entire country from scratch.
At the end of the day, we drove to the hotel where we were able to rest and bathe. Once the sun went down, the group enjoyed a couple hours of Tel Aviv nightlife.
Until next time,
